Winick seems intent on establishing an entire community of African heroes, which should help counter some of the early and clearly uninformed complaints about the book. ![]() The focus on African culture helps set the series apart from most of DC's books. ![]() There's really not much to find fault with in Winick's writing. Batwing is even able to boast his own unique version of Alfred and a very sadistic and Joker-like villain. The limited supporting cast is also handled well. Batman is used sparingly but effectively. Winick portrays Zavimbe as both an honest, capable officer and a man still learning the ropes of the hero trade. He lays out David Zavimbe's dual lives as an ambitious police officer and costumed vigilante in training. Winick accomplishes quite a bit in the first issue. ![]()
